CHOREOGRAPHY
‘Face2Face’
Concept, Choreography, and Production by Marynia Fekecz-Mangan (2023)
“FACE2FACE” aims to use choreographic language to show the intrinsic interconnectedness between humans. The viewers will follow two dancers and their previously recorded selves as they explore themselves in each other and the shadows of who they were on the screens. The artists intend to bring seamless integration and momentary synchronization between video, live dancers, and music and – at the same time - create an illusion for the audience that oscillates around past and present.
As Marynia Fekecz-Mangan says: “… I have been in Canada a few years now; becoming a mother of two kids (one is two years old, and another is a newborn) and a Canadian citizen (2023) has been an inspiring experience. While motherhood is not the focus of this project, it is now inherently a part of everything I do. It is challenging and complex in some ways. As a well-motivated artist and a member of the maternal dance community, I feel supported and welcomed to continue to create work that embraces and supports me as a mother.”

‘Transportation’
a 20-minute duet co-choreographed by Marynia Fekecz-Mangan and Kate Stashko with musical improvisation by Tatiana Warszynski (violinist) and Shawn Pinchbeck (sound designer), as part of Alberta Culture Days, September 2022, Harcourt House Artist Run Center, Edmonton, Alberta
The piece is about differences between people and how they can still be interconnected even if their needs and lives are different if they are separated or brought together. The dancers are presenting ideas of unity and identity, moving with different improvisation tasks which are all choreographically set up during the rehearsal time. During the event, the audience will be able to move freely throughout the gallery, viewing either of the dancers.
The musicians are improvising and walking around the rooms. Depending on which room the musician is in she is changing the tempo and adjusting to the dancers or trying to be opposite of the dancer’s movement, creating a clear sense of unity, consistency and tension. Throughout the performance one dancer is slowly moving from one room to another, joining the other dancer at the couch for a final structure together at the end of the performance.
